Distributional properties of exponential functionals of Lévy processes ∗

چکیده
We study the distribution of the exponential functional I(ξ, η) = ∫∞ 0 exp(ξt−)dηt, where ξ and η are independent Lévy processes. In the general setting, using the theory of Markov processes and Schwartz distributions, we prove that the law of this exponential functional satisfies an integral equation, which generalizes Proposition 2.1 in [9]. In the special case when η is a Brownian motion with drift, we show that this integral equation leads to an important functional equation for the Mellin transform of I(ξ, η), which proves to be a very useful tool for studying the distributional properties of this random variable. For general Lévy process ξ (η being Brownian motion with drift) we prove that the exponential functional has a smooth density on R \ {0}, but surprisingly the second derivative at zero may fail to exist. Under the additional assumption that ξ has some positive exponential moments we establish an asymptotic behaviour of P(I(ξ, η) > x) as x → +∞, and under similar assumptions on the negative exponential moments of ξ we obtain a precise asymptotic expansion of the density of I(ξ, η) as x → 0. Under further assumptions on the Lévy process ξ one is able to prove much stronger results about the density of the exponential functional and we illustrate some of the ideas and techniques for the case when ξ has hyper-exponential jumps.

Extended Factorizations of Exponential Functionals of Lévy Processes
In [18], under mild conditions, a Wiener-Hopf type factorization is derived for the exponential functional of proper Lévy processes. In this paper, we extend this factorization by relaxing a finite moment assumption as well as by considering the exponential functional for killed Lévy processes. As a by-product, we derive some interesting fine distributional properties enjoyed by a large class o...
متن کاملOn exponential functionals of Lévy processes
Exponential functionals of Lévy processes appear as stationary distributions of generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (GOU) processes. In this paper we obtain the infinitesimal generator of the GOU process and show that it is a Feller process. Further we use these results to investigate properties of the mapping Φ, which maps two independent Lévy processes to their corresponding exponential functional...
متن کاملA Refined Factorization of the Exponential Law
Let ξ be a (possibly killed) subordinator with Laplace exponent φ and denote by Iφ = ∫∞ 0 e−ξsds, the so-called exponential functional. Consider the positive random variable Iψ1 whose law, according to Bertoin and Yor [6], is determined by its negative entire moments as follows E[I ψ1 ] = n ∏ k=1 φ(k), n = 1, 2 . . . . In this note, we show that Iψ1 is a positive self-decomposable random variab...

متن کاملApplying the Wiener-Hopf Monte Carlo Simulation Technique for Lévy processes to Path Functionals such as First Passage Times, Undershoots and Overshoots
In this note we apply the recently established Wiener-Hopf Monte Carlo (WHMC) simulation technique for Lévy processes from Kuznetsov et al. [17] to path functionals, in particular first passage times, overshoots, undershoots and the last maximum before the passage time. Such functionals have many applications, for instance in finance (the pricing of exotic options in a Lévy model) and insurance...
